The word ‘bothy’ means a ‘friendly house’ - traditionally a welcome rest from the elements where food and shelter were offered to travellers. Derived from the Gaelic "Am Bothan" (which means small house or hut), a bothy is also place of refuge for shepherds or hill-walkers caught out on the hills by bad weather. They are normally found in remote, mountainous areas and are particularly common in the Highlands of Scotland. Don’t forget to try our Gaelic Coffee which is the perfect indulgent treat to be enjoyed either inside the Bothy or in our fabulous outdoor seating area from which the breathtaking views of Loch Alsh can be enjoyed all year round.
